How Many Lutheran Pastors Does It Take To Catch Some Rays At Calumet?

Written by Knute Ogren on Saturday, 23 July 2011

Collars_on_the_BeachPr. Dave Dalzell from Good Shepherd in Laconia in NH, Pr. Geoff Sinibaldo from St. Michael in New Canaan in CT, Pr. Dan Carlson (ret.) from Charlestown in RI, and Pr. Tim Osolvich from Trinity in Vernon in CT ... you should have felt the vibe of faithfulness on Calumet's Family Camp Beach this past week!!  Dalzell was leading an activity called "Remembering Our Baptism" in the first swim section, Sinibaldo gathered some little children and did an impromptu re-enactment of "Jesus Calls the 12," Carlson visited picnic tables and lead the crowd is reciting the Athanasian Creed, and Oslovich stood by the shoreline and discussed how cool it would be to see the parting of Lake Ossipee!  What a week!

PUDDLE

Written by Knute Ogren on Saturday, 23 July 2011

PUDDLE_ridge_picThere's a group at Calumet who, together, serve as one of the most significant pieces of the Calumet puzzle.  The group is PUDDLE.

Program Directors, Unit Leaders, Department Heads, Day Camp Directors, Leadership Trainers, Every Other Leader ... They are the glue. They are responsible for training counselors, encouraging the excellent experience we offer, fine-tuning as issues arise, handling concerns in as immediate a fashion as possible, promoting a safe and faith-filled program, and doing everything else!!  Jim Doyle, Calumet's Associate Director for Resident Camp threw a pizza party on Jackman Ridge to thank the group for an awesome couple weeks of work.

Fairis ... Come Back Soon!!

Written by Knute Ogren on Saturday, 23 July 2011

Ferris_picFairis Bliss from Holy Trinity in North Easton, MA is an example of how the Calumet Spirit is alive and well -- and ensures that this camp can be a clean and safe place for all people. Fairis has some big fans here at Calumet. Paul, George, and Steve are always thankful that Fairis comes to camp for a few days here and there -- or a couple weeks, even!!  While Fairis did a whole host of jobs in the campground and the conference center, his five grandchildren were participating in Calumet programs.  Fairis and his congregation have been doing things for Calumet for years and years.  We're glad Fairis was here, and we're starting a new list for when Fairis returns!  Come Back Soon, Fairis!!

Weekly Show 3

Written by Knute Ogren on Saturday, 23 July 2011

Weekly_Show_3_picEach week the campers who sign up for Music and Dramatics have the opportunity to show off their wonderful work in front of the whole camp. Last night in Luther Hall (hot, hot, hot Luther Hall), we saw some dancing, singing, acting, video work -- there are lots of talented kids at Calumet!

I just love it when Captain Juri Niiler (a member of Emanuel, Manchester, CT), one of Calumet's Pontoon Boat captains, sends me an email with some awesome pics of Lake Ossipee. He snagged these the other day ... campers having a blast sailing on the cool and bright clear waters. Note Mount Chocorua in the background.  If you haven't been to Calumet in a while, you're missing out on some seriously beautiful surroundings.  Come visit soon.  Maybe you can get on one of Captain Juri's cruises!
